Hey all you listeners from Kwourworld this dedication goes out to Dean Namba from Maria Namba in Venice.
Starting all over again is gonna be rough, so rough
But we're gonna make it
We lost what we had
That's why it hurt so bad
It set us back a thousand years
We're gonna make it up
Though it's gonna be rough
To erase all the hurt and tears
Starting all over again is gonna be hard
But I pray that the love will help us make it
Starting all over again is gonna be slow
But we both know that we can make it
We gotta take life as it comes
And never worry about who's right or wrong
It's an uphill climb
To the finish line
We're gonna try to make it
One more time
Tim Hagan spent part of the day with Deano today and watched Dean participate in his treatments today. The consensus is Dean is working really hard and doing what he needs to do.
According to Tim Dean was in good spirits today.
On the home front we are preparing the best we can to make home a safe environment for Deano to continue on his journey to recovery.

Hags here and I actually got to see Nambs twice today sandwiched around a quick drive to San Diego to visit friends at the Hearing Aid Lab where I order my products. To say Nambs is working hard is an understatement! His Surfer-Chick Occupational Therapist Marianna really gets him going. She's McGivered all sorts of contraptions to work-out Nambs. Cut-off ski poles, PVC pipe with pads and duct tape wrapped sticky-side out etc. Not sure if Nambs was working so hard to impress her or me... 90% right arm work today. Once he gets in a groove he was moving his arm a bit with a little gravity assist. He worked himself so hard that he finally had to lay down and rest as he was a bit dizzy. He's pushing himself hard. I had a great chat with her and she's working the Doctors hard to get Dean cleared of the infection "quarantine" that requires visitors to gown up to visit so he can get in some groups and out of his room. (A chiffon gowns make you look twenty pounds heavier and clashes with peach latex gloves!) Then it was back to his room where Robin, his Speech Therapist was waiting to work with him on swallowing and mouth/tongue exercizes. I did those too while watching! Before they could start that some Doctors were looking Nambs over having him try all sorts of things. Sit down everyone... He moved the fingers on his right hand a little bit for the first time!!! He also raised his right foot 6" off the floor while in his wheel chair. Nice going Nambs! I left for SD after that but then spent 4 hrs with him just hanging out when I got back at 5:00. We watched the Food Channel the WHOLE time. I'm on a restricted diet so he was laughing when I pointed things out that I can't have that he'll be having later. I think he was torturing me on purpose! We planned a road trip to a great seafood place in San Diego once he's up to it.
He is so much sharper/quicker/more animated since I saw him last month. I'll be sad to leave...
Sorry Riley for drooling on your pillow... It'll be fine by the time you come home from Seattle. I'll throw it in the washing machine. You have a comfy bed.
There was a good article in the LA Times weekend supplement - I think it was Parade? It was the thin pulpy one. Anyway, the article was specifically about the advances that have been made in TBI therapy. It focused on the ability of the brain to recircuit itself, and emphasized today's different approach to stimulating the recovering brain in ways tailored to the individuals likes/dislikes, interests and strengths. It was very optimistic, and remarked how patients with similar brain injuries have a much better recovery curve than those subjected to outmoded therapies from just a decade or two ago.
It also stated how the best results are obtained by beginning the therapy early, while the brain is beginning to repair itself, however, the brain can continue to heal, rewire, and improve years after the injury.
Best,
Mark
The progress makes me tear up. I'm so thrilled. So many people have been praying. I love it when God says yes. Give a hug to Riley for me.
